De Jong has been held back by mental click at Barca – dressing room source

Barcelona finally seems to get the best from Frenkie de Jong. Although it has only been maintained for two months in which the Dutchman looked a fluent part of the Hansi film system, it is undoubtedly the best he looked into a Barcelona shirt. Months after what looked like an inevitable departure this summer, his future might be in the Catalan capital.

The Blaugrana reportedly offered him a new deal that will keep his salary at the same level, and both parties like to extend what is now a six -year -old stay in the club. De Jong has only had a year on his contract this summer and if they cannot reach an agreement, Barcelona will probably still try to sell him.

His recent form seems to have convinced many that he finds at least the form that his promise suggested when he left Ajax. According to an article by Relroo, in which they refer to a dressing room source, De Jong might have been missing a bit of the ambition needed to get the best out of himself and to believe in his own capacity. Through various players over the years referred to as one of the most impressive training, “if he believed so much, he would be a top player.”

They also doubt his Northern European mentality, described as cold, and whether the culture of self-criticism may not have helped its development. However, it is the conviction of Hansi film that is quoted as the decisive factor in his reversal. The German coach was dedicated to the rehabilitation of De Jong, and despite the excellent form of Marc Casado until that moment, he started to start the Dutchman in January.

Since then, De Jong has made his own starting point alongside Pedri in midfield. More demanding tests are on the road in both La Liga and the Champions League, such as Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid loom in the month of April. The lack of panic about the injury to Casado, which probably pronounces him for the rest of the season, is a sign of how much progress De Jong has made.
