Dean Henderson has opened heartbreaking about the death of his deceased father after the memorable FA Cup triumph of Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Palace disrupted the opportunities to beat Manchester City in Wembley to secure a first big trophy of the 120-year history of the club.
After the 16th minute goal of Ebereechi Eze, Henderson played a crucial role when he made several important rescues, including stopping the fine of Omar Marmoush in a dramatic way.
Henderson, who enjoyed a brilliant season for Palace, tragically lost his father, Dougie, prior to the campaign at the age of 57, 11 days after the last defeat of England 2024 against Spain, for which the keeper was an unused replacement.
In the immediate aftermath of the game of Saturday, Henderson had paid a tribute to Dougie and he did this again when he appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday.
“It was clearly a huge emotional day in that respect,” Henderson said when he was asked about his father.
'In the last 24 hours I probably thought a lot about it. But of course, if you are in the moment, you just have to concentrate at stake. '
Henderson became visibly emotional in the interview and he continued: 'The side issue of it really comes when you can't record the phone with him and have a chat with him and tell him what you did.
“He would normally have been there in the stadium. But listen, it is incredible and I am proud that I think I was with me there. '
In the meantime, Henderson, speaking in the moments after the victory of Palace in Wembley, had an equally moving tribute to Dougie.
“That's why I left (Man United), it's what I wanted to do. But to be honest, I lost my father at the start of the season and I will miss him here today.
“But today he was every kick of the ball and I wide that victory to him.”
In the meantime, Henderson, who won two caps for England, may have happiness to stay on the field in Wembley, since he seemed to handle the ball outside the area during the first half.
With Erling Haaland on goal, Henderson pushed the ball away, but Var finally decided that it was not a red card attack, so the 28-year-old was not punished.
Stadsbaas Pep Guardiola remained about the decision and was later involved in an angry exchange with the Spaniard.
Henderson, however, opened on the spit and revealed what happened between the couple.
“I just wanted to shake his hand,” he said ITV. “But I think he was disappointed about the waste of time.
“I said,” You have the ten minutes you wanted. ” There are no hard feelings. '
The victory of Palace means that they will play in the Europa League next season, where they will get their first complete experience with Europe. The club previously played in the Intertoto Cup and Anglo Italian cup in the past.
They return to action on Tuesday when Oliver Glasner's side Wolves entertain, before Palace closes the campaign with a trip to Anfield to enter into Premier League champions Liverpool next Sunday.
