Declan Rice makes worrying title admission as Arsenal’s mistake become clearer

Arsenal is 12 points behind the Premier League leaders Liverpool after their 2-1 victory over Fulham and midfielder Declan Rice has admitted that they have dropped too many points -but the English star remains cheerful about the team's prospects for the rest of the season

Arsenal -midfielder Declan Rice has admitted that the Gunners “went too often” this season, but sworn to put Liverpool pressure until the end of the season. The men of Mikel Arteta dropped out in the title race after Liverpool had achieved a 15-point lead before the international break, which has now been reduced to 12 after the 2-1 victory of the team over Fulham.

Liverpool can still restore their benefits if they beat Rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday evening and take a step closer to their first title since 2020.

But Rice insists that the team is not influenced by the considerable lead of Liverpool at the top of the table, and says that they focus on controlling the controllables by winning as many games as possible.

He admitted that Arsenal had dropped too many points after signing ten games and losing three, but promised to have the Reds “rushed”. “We know that we are behind them in the competition,” he told BBC Sport. “We can only determine what we can do and that is to win our eight games.

“We have noticed one too often this season, we will continue to look them up and continue to put pressure on them, that's all we can do.”

Rice has almost always been present for Arsenal this season, from 26 of the 30 Premier League matches. In all competitions he played 41 times, scored five and helped eight.

The English star will also have one eye on the Champions League while Arsenal is preparing for a discouraging two -legged draw against Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.

Rice insists that the team must have “a lot of faith”, they can achieve things this season and possibly even win the Champions League. He said that the chance to go into history was something that the team existed.

“Until the season is over, as a group, as a team, we must completely believe as a fan base that we can still achieve great things,” he told the club's official website. “We also have a great opportunity to create history in terms of the first Arsenal team that lifts the Champions League.

“I think that in itself drives us, it pushes us, the coaches push that question to us as well as the Premier League. We can go in history books in this club and we have had a great opportunity against Real Madrid, one of the best teams in the world. So, yes, exciting times.

“It has been difficult this year, but there is still a positivity that can come out. So, stay with us, keep believing and I think good things will happen for this club.”
