Atletico Madrid will fight until the end in their pursuit of the Liga title, despite losing land to leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid after a bad recent run.
Those were the words of Atletico boss Diego Simeone after the 2-1 victory of his team over Seville on Sunday, with the stop-time winner of Pablo Barrios the difference.
Lucien Agoume's opener was canceled by the penalty of Julian Alvarez in the first half, with barrios that switched the decisive goal with a nice finish in the final phase.
Atletico saw the result make their six-game Winless Run on all competitions, whereby that streak saw them from the Champions League and Copa del Rey dumped.
Simeone's side is now only seven points behind Barcelona in the table, where the League leaders held a 1-1 draw of Real Betis on Saturday.
Real Madrid also dropped points this weekend because they were stunned by Valencia in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, where Hugo Duro scored a late winner for the visitors.
Atletico only gets a 1.9% chance of winning the title by the OPTA Supercomputer, but Simeone has faith in his players that they can catch the top two.
“I remain insisting on ourselves, continuing to grow, keep improving, continuing to grow,” said Simeone a press conference.
“Will it be difficult? Of course! We are going to struggle? Of course! But we stand on it, try, fight to the end, because that's who we are.
“The goal of Barrios confirms that the work we do is good. The boys continue to insist and continue to continue and go for it and again …
“It was an important victory because of everything we have completed in recent weeks … (Seville) scored early, but we could recover.
“After (Julian Alvarez) Equalizer we played good football and we had a few chances for a very nice goal in the last minute, a goal that gave us a lot of joy because we never stopped insisting, never surrendered.”
Atletico returns to Laliga Action on April 14 when they host the last placed Real Valladolid.
