Match report

Rasmus Hojlund came from the bank to secure a 1-0 win over Portugal in the first stage of their quarter-final of the Nations League on Thursday.

Hojlund connected Andreas Skov Olsen with fellow replacement to give Denmark the benefit, good for the first half of Christian Eriksen in the sentence.

Denmark started fiercely and Mika Biereth forced an early error when he sued the attempt at a long ball by Diogo Costa. However, the goalkeeper recovered well, but clambered back to turn the ball wide for a corner.

Kasper Schmeichel denied Pedro Neto a little later with a great save, but the clearest opening came in the 23rd minute when Renato Veiga was punished for a handball in the box.

Eriksen stepped on the spot, but he was a bad strike, where Costa came to his right to keep it out.

Biereth forced a great savings from Costa 10 minutes before the break, met a bouncing cross on the half turn, but saw the goalkeeper reacting to tap it wide.

Denmark stopped the pressure in the second half, with Gustav Isaksen's Drive tipped just wide through a vast costa before Hojlund was a low shot just past the distant pole.

Hojlund, however, hit the goal a little later. Denmark cut Portugal open with One-Touch Fitting, and the Manchester United Voorwartse was unark in the middle to lead the cross from Skov Olsen to the right corner.

Debrief data: Hojlund finds its scoring touch

Hojlund had not scored since the beginning of December before he reached the back of Het Net in the last match of United against Leicester City, and he has now scored two goals in his last two performances.

He arrived in the 69th minute and had two big opportunities defined by Opta, more than anyone on the field.

However, Denmark was led by his united teammate. Eriksen may have missed his penalty, but he had the most shots (seven), shots on goal (three) and touches in the box (eight) of everyone in the game. His chances were worth a combined 1.29 expected goals (XG), more than all attempts from Portugal combined (0.51 XG).
