UFC Nashville -headliner Derrick Lewis has been responsible for many of the most shocking moments that are seen in the Octagon.
Before MMA's leading promotion again pays his attention to Pay-per-View campaign for Dustin Poirier's pension fight on UFC 318, Lewis is one of those who have to compete when the UFC returns to Tennessee on 12 July.
'The Black Beast' will perform in the main event in the Bridgestone Arena of Nashville, where Lewis has the task of sending Tallison Teixeira if he wants to pick up two wins in a row for the first time since 2021.
Lewis is the knockout leader of all time in the UFC with 15, two of which came into his most recent three fights. Before Rodrigo Nascimento was completed the last time-out, the fan-favorite Forefite brought a peak for the centuries in Salt Lake City.
Derrick Lewis dropped Marcos Rogerio de Lima with epic flying knee in 33 seconds Ko
UFC 291 took place on July 29, 2023 and was a memorable event. From the head-kick knockout by Justin Gaethje against Dustin Poirier to King Green who suffocated Tony Ferguson, the card was not short of eyebrows.
Perhaps, however, leading that category was the performance of Lewis.
In the third fight of the main map, 'The Black Beast' entered the Octagon to let his three-field loss from Skid against Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Lewis took 33 seconds to finish the Lima and achieve that goal, but the way of victory took almost everyone surprised.
As soon as the fight started, Lewis burst out of the gates with an immediate flying knee à la Jorge Masvidal against Ben Askren on UFC 239 on this day (July 6) in 2019.
While 'GameBred' released his rival with the shot, De Lima had to endure a number of ground and pounds after he had fallen but was not completely unconscious by Lewis' surprise view of athletics.
Derrick Lewis has caused serious damage with his unexpected flying knee
Given his immense power, Lewis only needs seconds to cause considerable damage to his rivals – something that the Lima knows all too well.
Speaking with Super Lutas in the aftermath of his brutal loss against Lewis, 'Pezao' Lewis' flying knee damaged his teeth so seriously that he struggled to even eat.
“It's one thing if you lose while fighting. As it was, it was really painful,” said the Lima.
“He hurried me and I thought he was going to throw a superman. I raised my guard and he threw the knee. I was a bit off when I fell. It was a hard blow and I couldn't respond.
“I took a hard knee,” De Lima continued. “My teeth are all loose. I can't eat well. It's a difficult moment.”
