Deschamps will announce he will step down as head coach of French national team

According to reports Deschamps will announce on Wednesday, he will step down as head coach of the French national team after the 2026 World Cup on January 8, ending his 14-year tenure with the team.

Deschamps' contract with the French national team expires in 2026 and he will not renew it after the World Cup. It is reported that Deschamps will make the announcement during an interview with TF1 on Wednesday at 1pm. The 56-year-old coach had already made this decision months ago and believes it is time to end discussions about his future.

Deschamps became head coach of the French national team in 2012 and led the team to victory in the 2018 World Cup, the 2021 UEFA Nations League, and reached the finals of the 2016 UEFA European Championship and the 2022 World Cup. Last summer, France won the European Championship eliminated in the semi-finals after losing to Spain.

According to previous media reports, Zidane wants to coach the French national team in the future.
