Gary Neville names 3 EPL players to have surprised him the most this season

Gary Neville has named Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch as one of his biggest surprise players in the Premier League so far this season.

The highly rated midfielder has impressed despite starting the season on the back of two disappointing campaigns.

Gravenberch had a disappointing season at Bayern Munich in the 2022/2023 season after leaving Ajax. He made just 12 Premier League starts for Liverpool after his £35million move last year.

The 22-year-old has thrived this season under compatriot Arne Slot, who has played a deeper role in Liverpool's midfield.

Gravenberch's role change followed Liverpool's failed pursuit of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi during the summer transfer window.

Man United legend Neville cited Gravenberch's impressive performances, coupled with his role change, as driving forces behind his selection.

“I'm going with Graveneberch in terms of the way he's played and the position he's played in,” Neville said on Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet.

'I feel like Gravenberch is a huge surprise in terms of how well he has played.

“I don't think anyone expected him to be as good as he has been in that position [in midfield]. Curtis Jones was also very good.'

Gravenberch would ultimately end up as the third biggest surprise after speaking to Man United legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, Arsenal great Ian Wright and Lionesses hero Jill Scott.

The goalscoring form of Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood and Ipswich striker Liam Delap put Gravenberch ahead.

“Chris Wood has to be in the top three with eight goals, Liam Delap with six goals for Ipswich,” Neville added.

'I'm not surprised by Danny Welbeck, he's very good; its current form is better than any current form [Manchester] United's front player this season. Morgan Rogers op [Aston] Villa could be great.

'I would go for Woodtop, Delap number two and Gravenberch third.'

Wright had highlighted Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and Brighton's Carlos Baleba as other possible options.

The former Arsenal striker also introduced Brentford strikers Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo.

Wright praised the duo for their performances, which he suggested have resulted in the Bees not feeling any significant impact from the sale of Ivan Toney.
