Gianluigi Donnarumma leaves Paris Saint-Germain and has already held conversations about the joints of one Premier League side in the summer transfer window, with two others interested
Gianluigi Donnarumma has put Premier League parties on Red Alert after he has announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Donnarumma was told that he has no future at PSG by manager Luis Enrique and has said goodbye to a fiery statement on Instagram. “Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the success of the team,” he said. “I am disappointed and discouraged.”
Earlier in the day, Enrique had confirmed that Donnarumma had been dropped out of the team on Wednesday evening for the Super Cup against Tottenham. “Donnarumma is out of the team because it is my own decision. I am 100 percent responsible,” said Enrique.
“I want a different kind of keeper and I have made this decision. Gigio is one of the best keepers in the world. The life of a football player at the highest level, and the same applies to our coaches, is this: it was not an easy decision, but I take full responsibility for it.”
Donnarumma is still only 26 years old and as a European champion at Italy in 2021 and a Champions League winner at PSG in May, the goalkeeper should not be a shortage of Vrijers.
There is still enough time until the window of the summer transfer closes on 1 September, but where can he end up? Here Mirror Football takes a look at the Premier League options.
Manchester City
The most recent sounds have come from Etihad, where Pep Guardiola has a weakness for Donnarumma. There has been a lot of movement this summer in the goalkeeper department in City, with rumors about a possible departure for Ederson to Galatasaray, followed by the club that again signed James Trafford for £ 31 million from Burnley.
Late on Tuesday evening the news came via L'Equipe, which Donnarumma had agreed on personal conditions with City. The Italy International is supposed to be very enthusiastic about moving to the city, which now has to negotiate a fee with PSG.
By making their wish to discharge Donnarumma and promote the new keeper Lucas Chevalier, PSG has supported himself in a corner, but reportedly appreciates him at £ 43 million.
The Donnarumma contract is less than a year, so City will certainly try to negotiate that reimbursement. His arrival would certainly mean the end for the eight -year stay of Edererson in the club and would mean that Trafford would again take a backseat in his boys' club.
Manchester United
Questions about the form of Andre Onana in United have been a constant almost since his arrival of Ajax – and it came to a peak last season. Ruben Amorim was forced to remove Onana from the shooting line after an error -filled version against Lyon in the Europa League, but his replacement Altay Bayindir was not better.
Allegedly United contacted Aston Villa to inquire about the availability of EMI Martinez earlier this summer, while they are also connected to Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
Donnarumma always seemed to be an ambitious target, given the lack of United to European football and the 15th placed finish last season. The club has renounced a movement for him, which seems unlikely.
A problem is the lack of available funds from United. Donnarumma dropped out with PSG after he had demanded a bumper new contract and United, some of their unwanted players would have to discharge before they would add their summer spree of £ 200 million. Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are their most valuable assets in that respect.
Chelsea
Robert Sanchez never convinced as Chelsea goalkeeper, who made an attempt earlier this summer to sign Mike Maignan. The blues have sold Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth for £ 25 million, sent Kepa Arsenal for £ 5 million and let Marcus Bettinelli go to City.
They still have Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders in their books, with the last very appreciated and currently on loan in Strasbourg for the season. Chelsea is said to be satisfied with their options – and the move for Maignan was an opportunistic, instead of a planned.
But the chance of signing Donnarumma, which would clearly be an upgrade for the error -sensitive Sanchez, can change his mind. Sanchez improved at the end of last season and fits in with Enzo Maresca's ethos to play from behind, but will always have a blunder in him.
