Dorgu transfer: Manchester United sign Lecce defender on £30m deal

Manchester United has completed the signing of Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu in a deal of £ 30 million.

The left back has become the second signing of Ruben Amorim as a United Head Coach.

The reimbursement will be £ 25.2 million, plus £ 4.2 million in add-ons, in which the defender participates until 2030, including the option of another year who flown to Manchester on Wednesday to complete his medical in Carrington.

As Sky Sports News reported about Amorim's appointment, the left wing-back was circled as the priority position and was the only transfer that would probably happen in this window, regardless of the situation of the club.

Dorgu, 20, has made 53 performances for Lecce in the Serie A since he joined the Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2022 and was tucked off by Denmark four times.

Who is Patrick Dorgu?

Sky Sports' Adam Bate:

The interest of Manchester United in Patrick Dorgu emphasizes how quickly the Young Denmark International has advanced. He only made his debut in Senior football last year, but the Lecce left back wants to take the next step in his career.

Lecce himself, determined to their Serie A status for a third season in a row, identified Dorgu in the famous Academy of FC Nordsjaelland before he was even broken through. Also at FCN there is pride and satisfaction about the development of the player.

“Our good exploration saw him fairly quickly,” Alexander Riget, their technical director, tells Sky Sports. The required riget and the current Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup to make the trip to Jutland to see him. “It's a five -hour drive from here.”

They saw something in Dorgu, at the time only 12 years old. He played “One Year Up” in their U13 team, but was not a striking star. “He was always a good player, but he developed very well a little later, at the age of 16 or 17.” It didn't take long, he was gone.

“His journey is a bit different from many of our other players. Normally they play 50 to 100 games and then they leave for a larger club.” Is that frustrating? “No, we were still a very important part of his journey. We are very happy with his situation at the moment.”
