Dricus du Plessis explains why he doesn’t want to see Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall

Dana White is currently doing everything he can to argue between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall.

The heavyweight champion defended his belt for the first time by spending Stipe Moic on UFC 309 in November.

After the fight, talk immediately turned to his next fight. Interim title holder Tom Aspinall waited in the wings for a chance to unite the division since he has eliminated Sergei Pavlovich to become the secondary champion at UFC 295 in November 2023.

UFC boss Dana White believes that Jones vs Aspinall could be the biggest fight ever – but not everyone wants to see it.

Dricus Du Plessis does not want to see Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall

UFC Middleweight Champion Dric Du Plessis recently mentioned Jones on his five-man goat list.

In almost the same breath, the South African Slugger explained why he does not want to see 'bones' against Aspinall, despite the fact that their potential fight is long -awaited in the MMA community.

“The Tom Aspinall fight, let me tell you this,” said Du Plessis during an interview with Mark Bouris.

“Tom Aspinall, I met him, he is an incredible guy, a great man. So modest and fun. A soft giant, until he comes in, of course.

“It is a fight that I don't have to see because the world wants to see this. I love Aspinall. I think he is phenomenal. In the heavyweight division he has struggling, struggling and incredibly striking – you don't see that with heavyweights.

“Jon Jones is ahead of everyone, especially in heavyweight, until Aspinall came by. I mean, we saw what he did with Ciryl Gane.

“Aspinall is young, hungry. You have Jones, who is certainly at the end of his career. What is he 38 years old? I don't have to see this because he has never been defeated. I don't have to see Jon Jones fight against Tom Aspinall because I don't want one of them to lose.

“I want Jon Jones to retire unbeaten. Of course he had that DQ for a 12-6 elbow that is now legally unbeaten and the legend he is. I want him to retire and Aspinall can be the next big thing. “

Dricus du Plessis will never write off Jon Jones

Du Plessis understands that Jones vs Aspinall will probably continue despite his protests, so he has offered some thoughts about the intriguing matchup between the two heavyweight champions of the UFC.

He added: “Jon Jones is the warrior who says:” Pay me enough and I do it. ”

“Aspinall wants it. One of them must lose that fight. You look at it and go, “Aspinall is probably going to win.” If you ask me: “No, no, no.” We said that so often with Jon Jones and he makes it easy. He is definitely the best of all time.

“You can't deny that until this date since fighting exists that he is the goat.”

Du Plessis has his own big fight to concentrate now. On Saturday evening he will be opposed Sean Strickland in a middleweight title Rematch on UFC 312.

Khamzat Chimaev awaits the winner in the wings. That also applies to Nassourdine Imavov after his knockout victory over Israel Adesanya in UFC Saudi -Arabia last weekend.
