Dricus Du Plessis explains why his fighting is so entertaining for UFC 312
In 24 fights as a professional MMA hunter, Dricus Du Plessis has only been to the scorecards of the jury twice against Brad Tavares in 2022, and then in his title-winning victory over Strickland on UFC 297.
“In my entire career I have only been the distance twice and both were incredible fights,” said Du Plessis when he came to Triple M 'from the local radio station to watch an example of his world championship.
“I don't mind the distance if it is an entertaining fight, I have never had a boring fight in my life.
'I don't think I have the power [to be in a boring fight] Because you have to be able to go at a certain pace and I only know one pace … This time you know, that will teach me not to go to a decision.
“Not that it was a lack of trying, but this time I am just a bit sharper – a year has been hired since that fight and I believe that in terms of how I have grown like a hunter, the development, this sport is moving so fast and [I just keep] Get better, get better day in day out. “
The South African is preparing for the rematch of Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 312 this weekend and as a defender he knows that there is an important target on his back.
Nevertheless, a UFC champion also means that Du Plessis Vechtweek is coming in knowing that the victory, especially a viral knockout, as he predicts, could pay dividends to the next generation of hunters from his home country.
“You have a much greater responsibility if you are the champion because my entire gym [and] My whole team at the moment they consider to me as the benchmark, as the world champion, and that is what everyone wants to be.
“You have to give an example why I am world champion and you are not; So if you are a young guy who trains with me, I have to prove to them why I am world champion and what is needed to be one … Not at all in an arrogant way, but in a motivating and inspiring way. “
Dricus Du Plessis has elevated, elevated goals for the rest of his UFC career
Dricus Du Plessis succeeded his title victory at Sean Strickland with an excellent entry of the fourth round on Israel Adesanya and If you thought that was impressive, just wait what he planned for 2025.
Speaking with ESPN MMA, 'Still Knocks' would state that there is much more from his UFC official period and that he is still' quite a bit like the actual domination of the division to a place that is not competition.
“I also want to go upstairs and get another belt,” he teased.
“And in the end I want to be seen as the greatest hunter to ever walk on this earth – that is my ultimate goal and that is what keeps me going, regardless of what you achieve.
“That is a legacy that you build on during your entire career, so that is my motivation and that is what I pursue, I can't wait for what holds 2025.”
Those plans depend on his hand in Australia this weekend.
UFC 312: Du Plessis vs Strickland 2 will fall on Saturday 8 February.
