Dricus Du Plessis reveals the real reason he couldn’t finish Sean Strickland ahead of UFC 312 rematch

When Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland met for the first time last January, they fought against a split decision that Strickland believed was a 'theft'.

Although the fight was not the most technical, it turned out to be quite back and forth and Dric Du Plessis did just enough to set it up on the judge's score cards, who denied Sean Strickland.

Nevertheless, Strickland has since done nothing but complain about the decision and claimed that the Canadian judges have robbed him of his title.

With that in mind, prior to their rematch on UFC 312, Strickland du Plessis offered a pact in which they only struck in their rematch, but he recently performed a U-turn after 'Still Knocks' had closed him.

Dricus Du Plessis reveals why he could not finish Sean Strickland in the first fight

Since winning the title of Strickland on UFC 297, the South African has once directed its title against Israel Adesanya on UFC 305.

During that time 'Tarzan' only recorded one victory against Paulo Costa and fans believe that he is lucky to get the title shot, given that Khamzat Chimaev, Robert Whittaker crushed not long ago.

Because their first meeting was a close encounter and was not very technical, the champion revealed why he had not finished Strickland after he had submitted Adesanya in the fourth round of their collision.

“He was just too good, it was not because of a lack of trying, you could see that, I tried, I threw everything I had, he was really good,” Du Plessis told ESPN MMA.

“I think the pace was so high in that fight, but I only started to push the pace later in the fight where I should have and now I know that I can push that pace of the word.

“Defensively, Sean Strickland is one of the best hunters in the world, he is really good at that and he is really responsible for his defense, and he prioritizes the defense above attack, so he does not necessarily give you the chance (to get rid of him To make), “the champion continued.

Dricus Du Plessis explains why he is world champion

It is fair to say that Du Plessis has one of the strongest thoughts of all the champions in sport.

The former middleweight champion, 'The Last Stylebender', expressed the words famous: 'I am prepared to die', moments for the fifth round of his interim title fight against Kelvin Gastelum.

Du Plessis, however, believes that it is not only about being prepared to die in the Octagon, but also to “kill a man before his family.”

'Am I willing to die? Absolutely, that's easy. It is 'you are willing to kill a man for his family'. Yes, that's me and that's why I am the world champion because I say yes to that question every time, “he explained on Straight Talk.

That is probably not something that 'Stillnocks' will have to worry about this coming Saturday against Strickland, who only scored one finish in his last seven victories.
