Dricus Du Plessis has told Ilia Topuria not to be too comfortable on the P4P throne.
Du Plessis is planned for his fourth consecutive pay-per-view main event this Saturday, because the South African defends his middleweight title for the third time in the UFC 319 headliner.
After he passed Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland since he resolved the last challenger of Du Plessis at the beginning of last year, the next challenger of Du Plessis Khamzat Chimaev is. The undefeated Chechenfenomenon is generally expected to serve the most difficult test of the champion so far in the UFC.
Although no one has defeated 'Borz' so far, 'Still Knocks' expects to make a statement while he does this in Chicago-one who justifies a big boost in the pound pattering.
Dricus Du Plessis expects to be P4P No. 1 after his UFC 319 performance
The pound-for-pound rankings are always an important topic of discourse in the UFC, with opinions that are often divided when it comes to who is sitting on the throne.
The most recent major movement came after UFC 317, when the newly crowned lightweight champion Ilia Topuria passed the Islam Makhachev to become the best P4P hunter in the promotion.
Du Plessis is now connected to colleague -thitnesser Alexandre Pantoja at number 4. Despite his impressive statement and undefeated Run, the South African remains under Makhachev and Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishhvili, next to Topuria.
But while he spoke with the MMA Guru before UFC 319, Du Plessis warned 'El Matador' to expect this to change in the coming days.
“Absolutely,” said Du Plessis when he was asked if he believes that a victory over UFC 319 could rise to the P4P throne.
“From now on I agree 100 percent that Ilia is at the top of that list.
“But after this fight – and if I give the performance that I believe I am going and that I know I can and the way I have prepared – I will definitely go to that place,” Du Plessis added.
Dricus du Plessis' potential stint because the P4P king of UFC can also be short-lived
If Du Plessis beats Chimaev and is rewarded with a P4P crown in the next rankings -updated, one UFC legend does not believe that the South African will stay there for a long time.
After the shake-up at the top of the ladder earlier in the summer, Daniel Cormier Makhachev told Topuria again when he takes the Welterweight title of Jack della Maddalena.
“He (Topuria) is today the number one pound-for-pound hunter,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “But if Islam can beat Jack della Maddalena, it turns again and Islam returns to number one.
“Only because of this will (his) fighting style be proven that it is going to the next weight class. Islam will have done everything that Topuria has done with a heavier weight. Four title defense at 155, and then the new champion at Welterweight.
“So yes, I agree, he (Topuria) is today number one of pound-for-pound,” Cormier continued. “But I think the moment that Islam can win, he will go back to pound-for-pound number one.”
Makhachev is expected to challenge della Maddalena at the Madison Square Garden hero UFC 322 event in November.
