Poirier almost broke Holloway's arm in the first UFC meeting
When they first met at UFC 143, Holloway still had to compete under the UFC banner, who came in the promotion just 19 years old and only four professional fights under his belt.
His counterpart, Poirier, was not much older in just 22 years old, but he had already started making a name for himself in the UFC Featherweight Division after scoring three impressive victories in a row.
Although the fight when the fight was not much interest than the fact that it was Holloway's debut, it was clear to see that both hunters were going to do huge things in sport, and Joe Rogan even claimed that Holloway looked like a 'seasoned striker' early in the fight.
Poirier showed his experience advantage by having Holloway throw some daring strikes before taking over the pace of the fight.
Only two minutes in the first round 'The Diamond' scored a huge Takedown in Holloway, by presenting his gripping advantage while he immediately switched to the entire mountain.
The Louisianan continued to dominate the wrestling position before hiding on an arm of Holloway's, putting it in an arm bar attempt. After he had pulled to the arm of the 19-year-old and looked as if he were going to break it in two, he switched to a mix of a triangular choke and arm bar.
Not long after, Holloway quickly tapped 'blessed' while he shivered with pain after Poirier almost broke his arm in two.
Poirier then won an extra $ 65,000 for his entry victory and was awarded the submission of the Night.
The two met 7 years later with a UFC title on the line
A little more than seven years later, Poirier and Holloway met for the second time, this time this time fighting for the UFC -Interim -light weight title.
After Khabib Nurmagomedov Conor McGregor crushed in the greatest fight in the history of sport, he received a suspension for the fight after the fight that went down.
And with that an interim title was introduced to the lightweight division and Poirier earned his chance to compete in it after an undefeated line of five fights.
Holloway seized the opportunity to go to 155LB to compete for the title after defending his 145 pound title several times after beating Jose Aldo in 2017.
'The Diamond' then scored a new victory over the Hawaiian, dominated him in five rounds to become the interim light weight champion.
