Dustin Poirier appears to be gearing up for one last fight as he promised fans he would have a 'last dance'.
And the famously hard-hitting lightweight will incite the violence, telling his social media followers that “there will be blood.” Poirier is a former interim world champion, but lost all three of his attempts to win the undisputed title.
He has defeated the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway, leaving behind a legacy of brutal wars and memorable fights. However, after losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, he appears to be out of contention to win gold and appears ready to hang up the gloves after one more fight.
Dustin Poirier confuses fans as he vows to violently retire from MMA
In a series of tweets, Dustin Poirier has spoken to fans about his upcoming fight plans. He previously made it clear that he feels he has one more fight left, despite feeling that a loss to Makhachev in Newark would ensure he is done with it.
He performed impressively, pushing the dominant champion almost the entire distance, but could not gain a foothold and surrendered in the final round. However, that still puts him among the best lightweights in the world, and there are multiple big-money fights available for his career.
“I have something planned for you,” he wrote to his 1.2 million followers last night. 'Wait a minute. I'm coming.” He then replied to a fan who said “uno mas” with “The last dance. I promise.”
He then sent a confusing message apparently referring to a battle, reading: 'There will be blood. See you soon.” However, he ended the tweet with a series of eggplant emojis, leaving readers wondering what exactly he meant.
“Brother, what's with the eggplant emojis?” Fans wondered, with one writing: “Should I be excited or worried? The eggplant emoji doesn't help.” Another theorized that he had pressed the wrong button and joked, “That's not the gun emoji, bro.”
Dustin Poirier talks about why he's returning to the octagon
After his loss to Makhachev, Poirier was unclear about his plans for retirement from the octagon. He seemed to indicate he would retire, but refused to fully commit and has now returned fully.
“It could be uno mas, it could be dos mas,” Poirier told Ariel Helwani in October, after confirming that he would definitely not hand over the gloves. “My goal is to host an event here in Louisiana. Maybe New Orleans… That's my goal.
“I'm not asking for a favorable fight, I wanted the toughest fights I can get. I asked for Justin Gaethje, I asked for [Dan] Hooker – I am healed. I have done some therapy sessions for my knee and my nose, I can't breathe, but everything else is fine.”

“To be completely satisfied, I would prefer to put down my gloves at home and never fight again,” he added. “Finish here for my friends and family from Louisiana, the people who have supported me since I was 17 to fight and come out on top.
“To show that I'm leaving, but I still got it, that's important to me too… I want to beat these guys, fight tough fights and walk away at the top like, 'This guy left when he was still at the top of his game was. '. That's what I want my story to be.”
