UFC star Dustin Poirier is inching closer to a return to the Octagon for his potential fight finale.
Dustin Poirier's third attempt at lineal UFC championship status fell short in his most recent Octagon appearance in June. After initially teasing his retirement, Poirier has at least one more fight in the tank before ultimately ending a likely UFC Hall of Fame career.
Since losing to UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Poirier has gone back and forth on whether or not he wants to continue fighting. After initially appearing content with his decision to walk away, he has settled on that stance and wants at least one more high-profile fight before calling it quits.
There have been a few names thrown around for Poirier's retirement fight opponent, including a possible trilogy with Justin Gaethje. UFC CEO Dana White said the promotion is actively working with Poirier to solidify his farewell fight following UFC Tampa earlier this month.
With all the speculation surrounding Poirier's potential UFC final appearance, the man himself has taken to social media to share with fans their curiosity about when an announcement will become a reality.

Dustin Poirier hints at an impending fight announcement before the UFC retires
After a fan asked about fight news on X, Poirier responded with an encouraging one-word update.
“Soon,” Poirier replied.
Outside of the Gaethje trilogy, there are several other top names in the mix to be Poirier's final opponent. This includes BMF titleholder Max Holloway, who recently announced a permanent move to lightweight following a loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 308.
Topuria is another potential match for Poirier if the current featherweight title holder is serious about leaving the 145lb division for a move to lightweight. Despite an Alexander Volkanovski rematch likely being in the works for his next title defense, Topuria wants to challenge for double champion status.
Before the loss to Makhachev at UFC 302, Poirier rallied to finish Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 in March. The win got him back on track after a nasty knockout loss to Gaethje at UFC 291 last year.
Dustin Poirier looks to end his UFC storyline with another signature performance
Poirier is one of the most talented fighters in UFC history to never win a title. During his illustrious career he has defeated the likes of Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler and Holloway.
Poirier has repeatedly teased retirement in recent years but appears determined to make his next bout his final Octagon appearance. He has also alluded to wanting to make his final fight in his native Louisiana a storybook ending to his fighting career.
News of Poirier's retirement battle is expected to surface in the coming weeks.
