Dustin Poirier reveals Max Holloway’s stunning backstage admission to him after ‘no way’ reaction to UFC 318 result

The last UFC fight by Dustin Poirier was set up to give him the perfect last outing in the Octagon.

While Poirier is still leaving an incredible career, he could not go out with another victory for his home fans in Louisiana.

Max Holloway defeated Poirier in five rounds to successfully defend the BMF title and ultimately to include a victory over 'The Diamond' in their trilogy.

The sustainability of both men could be seen, making it another suitable episode in the history of the BMF belt.

There would always be a lot of respect between the two competitors, where Poirier would share an emotional moment with the son of Holloway in the aftermath, but that does not mean that the former interim champion was not disappointed.

Dustin Poirier says that Max Holloway admitted him that he was 'out' after being injured in the second round

The three jury members at Cage-Side for the main event of UFC 318 all scored the fight in favor of Max Holloway, with a 48-47 and two 49-46 cards.

When Dustin Poirier sat down in the press conference after the fight to bind the bow to his career, he spoke about surprised by the end result.

He believed that the fight on 2-2 was on his way to the final round, but this was not the case.

“Mike Brown checked the score cards when we arrived at the dressing room and I think the jury members gave me different rounds, so I don't know,” said Poirier. “I think all jury members gave him the second round. I thought I was almost gone.”

The second round turned out to be one of the best of the year, because both men apparently came close to each other.

Poirier passed a storm of Holloway before he hurt him with a combination, jumping to a guillotine -stitching and rain that elbows knocked down.

He was unable to get the finish in the last seconds of the round, although during the press conference 'De Diamant' revealed that Holloway told him that the outcome could have been very different if there had been a little more time.

“He also hurt me, but I thought my shot, when I followed elbows, I was cracking him. He told me in the medical tent, he said,” Man, you had me out “. We couldn't hear the bell, so it was just, it felt much closer than that.

“When I heard the jury members, 49-whatever, I had something like 'no way'. It was closer than that, but as the man says, it is what it is.”

Dustin Poirier does not regret jumping the Guillotine Choke one last time in his career

The last UFC fight from Dustin Poirier would not have felt completely if there was never a moment when he jumped for a Guillotine choke to try to take a victory through his favorite technique.

After Holloway fell on his knees with just over 10 seconds in the second round, Poirier immediately tried to wrap his neck.

While the choke looked nearby at some point, 'blessed' survived, which might not have been the case if his opponent had chosen to go straight to the ground and instead to pound.

It is not surprising that Poirier did not regret doing one last 'Gilly' jump in the Achthoek.

“Ah … no. Never,” Poirier thought at the press conference after the fight. “One last and damn, I really thought that would be the one, man. I had injured him, but he rolled on his back and I just couldn't control it.”
