Dustin Poirier sends Max Holloway a message in first UFC 318 face-off ahead of retirement fight

July 19, Dustin Poirier sees walking one last time to the Octagon.

It is certainly an emotional broadcast for 'The Diamond', but Poirier is looking forward to leaving fighting after having devoted MMA to MMA so much.

Poirier has put together a great UFC career and at UFC 318 he has the perfect way to close the last chapter.

The former interim light weight champion will fight against a colleague legend of the sport in Max Holloway in his home state.

Poirier and Holloway have a lot of respect for each other, but just as they have done in the past, they will put it aside as soon as the cage door closes on Saturday evening.

Dustin Poirier sets the tone for UFC 318 Fight Week in First Face-Off with Max Holloway

We have already seen Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway go in one of the best UFC title fights of all time.

Their collision for the BMF title on UFC 318 promises to be another instant classic, but there is far from every tension between the two men.

Of course, winning is still the only focus on them, while Holloway is preparing to take on the role of spoiler when ending the career of Poirier in a defeat.

Just as in their previous meeting at UFC 236 in 2019, where the interim light weight was at stake, the commitment and emotions that go into this will not change the fact that they have a lot of respect for each other.

The first of various face-offs of the Vechtweek showed that Poirier and Holloway went face-to-face when putting together some promotional material in New Orleans.

After looking into the eyes of his last opponent, 'The Diamond' only had one thing to say to Holloway to set the tone for the rest of the Vechtweek.

“Again, big dog.”

Former UFC hunter suggests the theory about the absence of Joe Rogan of UFC 318

While Vecht fans coordinate from all over the world to the last UFC fight of Dustin Poirier, they may be surprised not to hear Joe Rogan calling the action.

The old UFC commentator will apparently not make the trip to New Orleans, because MMA Junkie reported that he will not work the broadcast.

In a message on social media, former UFC hunter Josh Thomson speculated that Rogan might have made the decision to see 'the diamond' in his pension fight as a fan in the first place.

It would not surprise me if Joe is there to see Dustin fighting one last time with his boy Theo. Enjoying looking at one of the best hunters who ever finish his career with his friends.

Although Rogan is not traveling for international events, this is the first PPV event in the United States that he has not called UFC 271 in February 2022 since UFC 271.
