Ebereechi Eze has signed for Arsenal in a £ 67.5 million deal from Crystal Palace after his move to Tottenham Hotspur was hijacked by their North London Rivals.
The Gunners, who unveiled the signing before the Saturday match against Leeds, Live on Sky Sports, pay a guaranteed fee of £ 60 million plus £ 7.5 million in add-on for the attacker, which spends their summer transfer to £ 267 million.
Eze has signed a four -year -old deal with Arsenal, with the option of another year, and will wear the NO 10 shirt – previously worn by people like Dennis Bergkamp, Mesut Ozil and Robin van Persie – as well as Academy Players Jack Wilshere and Emile Smith Rowe.
Spurs thought they had an agreement with Palace and Eze on Wednesday before their rivals commemorated their interest in North and after an injury to Kai Havertz – although it is understood that the German injury is a contributing factor – not the most important reason for signing Eze.
Eze was one of a number of players where Arsenal was investigated in the first few weeks of the window, where a lot of work was carried out in June when they explored the conditions of a deal. The Gunners regard Eze as an option on the left, in the middle of the field – but also on the right.
Spurs considered to offer Richarlison in a deal for Eze. That would have made the pointed room for them to try to sign Yoane Wissa, who played under Thomas Frank in Brentford. Wissa still wants to become a member of Newcastle, who rejected a second bid on Wednesday.
How the battle for Eze unfolded
Arsenal has kept a long -term interest in Eze, who was previously in the books of their academy and said that he was an advocate of the club that grew up. It understood that Arsenal was very clear that Eze wanted to join the club from their first conversation with him.
They previously explored a potential deal in the window, but chose not to follow a deal at that stage, because they gave priority to reinforcing other areas of the team and matching new contracts with existing players.
Spurs then came in for Eze after Morgan Gibbs-White chose to sign a new contract in Nottingham Forest and they lost James Maddison to an ACL injury.
Conversations were held between Tottenham and Palace, and Spurs thought they had an agreement with the club and the player on Wednesday.
Arsenal, however, came in to hijack the deal on Wednesday evening in a big turn. The Gunners regard Eze as an option on the left, in the middle of the field – but also on the right.
Premier League expenditure record broken!
The Eze -deal also means that Premier League clubs have now broken the record for the most spent on transfers in one window.
The previous record was the summer of 2023 with the record for £ 2,4634 billion.
However, the Eze -deal of £ 67.5 million means that all 20 Premier League clubs have now spent £ 2,511,693,000 between them in this window.
Analysis: Electric Eze Unlock the defense for Arsenaal
Sky Sports' Peter Smith:
Ebereechi Eze is electric. The 27-year-old is a pleasure to look with his balance and Swagger on the ball and craft to open defenses, not to mention his preference for scoring spectacular strikes themselves.
He finished last season as one of the most popular prospects in the country and scored in six games in a row, including both the FA Cup semi -final and final at Wembley when he helped Crystal Palace inspire their very first great honor.
Last season, however, not all was just sailing. “I think Ebere had a strange season at the end of March,” said Paleisbaas Oliver Glasner. “He has not had many goals in the Premier League and he has had bad luck, but he continues. He is also struggling with strange injuries.”
Those comments came after Eze Palace had inflamed in a FA Cup -similar game in Fulham, it scored and set up another. That striking display came on the back of a first goal for England. Fit and full of confidence, Eze was back at his best during the run-in.
It is that Livewire Maverick Arsenal hope that I can unlock deep defenses and bring a spark to their previously predictable attack patterns. He offers something very different from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, the current wide left-wing options and Viktor Gyokeres will enjoy the prospect to lock to the type of fitting that has been so productive for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
After he was released by the Gunners as a 13-year-old, Eze will be motivated to grab a second chance in North London and in his prime, he seems to do exactly that and to have a big impact on Mikel Arteta.
