Eddie Howe will miss the Premier League match on Sunday against Manchester United after being admitted to the hospital.
Howe was admitted to hospital late on Friday “after feeling unwell for a few days,” Newcastle said in a statement.
A club statement continued: “The main coach of the Magpies was admitted to hospital late on Friday evening after he felt unwell for a few days.
“Eddie held medical staff in the hospital at night for further tests that are going on. He is aware and talks to his family and continues to receive expert medical care.
“Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a quick recovery, and further updates will follow in due course.”
Howe's Assistants, Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead the team for the competition in St. James' Park, which starts at 4.30 pm, live on Sky Sports.
Tindall was responsible for Howe at the club's press conference for the game.
Howe led Newcastle last month to their first domestic trophy for 70 years with a Carabao Cup -final victory over Liverpool in Wembley.
He has been in charge of Tyneside since November 2021, when he succeeded Steve Bruce.
Newcastle is currently seventh in the Premier League table and they offer the Champions League qualification after their cup success.
