Ederson DOUBLES old PL record in Man City’s remarkable win over Crystal Palace

Ederson produced a fourth assist of the season when Manchester City of two goals fought to beat Crystal Palace and to increase their hope for Champions League qualification

Ederson has granted his fourth assist to the Premier League campaign by setting up James Mcatee for the fourth goal of Manchester City in their 5-2 victory against Crystal Palace -and no goalkeeper has ever provided more than two in a season.

The feed from the Brazilian stop to McATee is also the eighth by a goalkeeper in 2024-25, the joint in a single season in the competition together with 1992-93 and 2007-08, according to Opta.

It was also the seventh assist of the Premier League career of Ederson. Paul Robinson is the goalkeeper with the following highest assists in the Premier League history on five. Arsenal legend David Seaman and ex-Livepool-Man Pepe Reina each registered there.

Palace had led 2-0 in Etihad thanks to early goals from Ebereechi Eze and Chris Richards, but City, still chased a top five finish to secure a place in the Champions League of next season, came back in the game thanks to a goal from Kevin De Bruyne to leave.

January signing Omar Marmoush then made it 2-2 before the break. And De Bruyne became a creator for Mateo Kovacic to complete the comeback of the city before Niererson then found Mcatee with a long pass to double the benefit. Nico O'Reilly has added a fifth to secure the victory.

However, it was not all joy for the NO1 of City, because he had to be immersed because of what seemed to be a groin injury with about 20 minutes to play. He bumped with some help from the medical team of the hosts and was replaced by Stefan Ortega.

City moved to the fourth with the victory – before the rest of the weekend of the weekend started and asked for Ederson's assists, McATee told TNT Sports: “He can kick it far away. He has a great pass, so when I saw that the defense was high, I just tried to get between them and the goal.

“I don't think we deserved to be 2-0. I think I missed a few chances early and the game just got away from us a bit. We played well, we knew the goals would come and they did.

“Of course we wanted to prove a point and show that we were dedicated and want to end in the Champions League places.”
