Hugo Ekitike has attracted the attention of various Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, with the Frankfurt star who opens where his algifts lie
Hugo Ekitike admitted last season that Manchester United was his youth team when they entered the race to sign the Frankfurt ahead. Liverpool and Chelsea have already registered their interest with Arsenal and United to the French Hitman.
Ekitike has just enjoyed his best season so far and excelled in the Bundesliga while helping Frankfurt to shoot to the Champions League. He scored more than 20 times and got on impressively when Omar Marmoush was sold to Manchester City halfway through the season.
A number of Premier League clubs are looking for more firepower and the Frenchman, formerly in PSG's books, is one of those who attract a lot of attention. The 22-year-old could get several offers on the table, but has been open about his love for the Old Trafford team.
United has a huge reach and when Ekitike was a young person, it was the team in red that he followed. He said to RTL last year in December: “My favorite club as a child was Manchester United. I always admired them.”
That can still be in favor of United if they end up in tug of war for his signature. Despite their struggles in the past decade, they remain an attractive proposition for some players, especially those they have followed for years – a point that is further proven by the recent step of Matheus Cunha.
Frankfurt sports director Markus Krosche has admitted that his star striker is not certain of the club, is certainly not sure of speculation about moving Deutsche Bank Park moving – and the German outfit has always been willing to punish outputs if a player has outgrown his environment.
He said Sport1: “He is one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. Hugo has to decide that. I am happy that we have him. If he decides otherwise, that is our motto: if a player develops faster than we, let him go.”
That saying Frankfurt, as they did with Marmoush a few months ago, Topdollar will demand if their player has to leave and with the advantage of the income from Champions League they are not under pressure to sell. Krosche added: “If the price is not good, he will just stay with us. We don't have to sell Hugo.”
United has already missed frontman Liam Delap, who chose Chelsea above Manchester when he left Ipswich. Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres reportedly rejected their interest and Tottenham fights Ruben Amorim for the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
