Ellie Carpenter signs from Lyon after Ashley Lawrence departure

Chelsea has signed right back Ellie Carpenter from Lyon after Ashley Lawrence went the other way.

The International Australia has signed a four-year-old deal with the WSL champions, mening with its former Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor.

Carpenter has won two champions competitions and five domestic league titles during her time in Australia and France.

The right back contains a number of records internationally, after making her senior debut for Australia at the age of only 15 and became the youngest woman who played football at the Olympic Games on Rio 2016, 16 years old.

After completing her move to Chelsea, Carpenter said: “I am really enthusiastic about this new challenge. It is a new adventure. It feels like the right move for me, and I can't wait to get started and give everything for this club.

“I am very proud to become a member of such a big club, one of the largest in women's football. Chelsea has enjoyed so much success in England and I like to be part of it.”

Paul Green, head of women's football in Chelsea, added: “Ellie is a player we have followed for many years. She has a lot of experience for someone her age and has won countless titles in her career, including the Champions League.

“She is an athletic full-back that likes to move forward. We are delighted to see how she continues to develop and what she will add to an already talented team of players.”

It comes a day after colleague right back Lawrence made the switch to Lyon. It marked her return to France, after she had spent six years with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Canadian joined the blues in 2023 and won four trophies in two seasons in the club, making 60 performances in all competitions.
