Elliott admits he may need to leave Liverpool

Harvey Elliott admitted that he might have to leave Liverpool for the well-being of his career after recording a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-2 defeat against Brighton.

For the third match of Liverpool since the conquering of the Premier League title, Arne Slot shuffled his pack and left several big names, including Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, on the couch.

Elliott was one of the players who gave a rare opportunity to impress, alongside Federico Chiesa and Jarell Quansah, and he even grabbed his chance in defeat.

He tapped Liverpool's opener after great work by Conor Bradley and then offered the assist when Dominik Szoboszlai scored their second with a cross-shot that sailed over Bart Verbruggen in the far corner.

However, Yasin Ayari, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood scored while Brighton scored their grip in eighth place – and possible European qualification – with a huge victory.

Speaking with Sky Sports after full -time, Elliott said: “You are not trying to let the parties drag too much, we worked very hard the entire season.

“Some guys, like me, have not played much the entire season, and it is about going out and enjoying it.

“We want to win and enjoy it. We have to take the positives and take it to the last game next week.”

Elliott only made his second Premier League start of the season on Monday, and he only appeared 17 times in the competition this period.

That represents an important step back after Elliott had made 32 competition in the 2022-23 and 34 in 2023-24, and he is connected to an relocation of Anfield.

The 22-year-old believes that this might have to be done for his development, and added: “It has been difficult with how much I played.

“I tried as hard as I could and whatever happens.

“It's about what is best for my career. It's about thinking and seeing what I can do. I'm here at the moment and I am concentrating on the last game.”
