Emery relishing chance to help Rashford meet ‘huge’ potential

Unai Emery enjoys the challenge to help Marcus Rashford meet his “huge potential”, while the attacker is preparing for his potential debut in Aston Villa on Sunday.

Rashford joined Villa for a loan-to-buy deal prior to the deadline of the mid-season, after the new head coach Ruben Amorim of Manchester United was frozen.

Villa reportedly pays three -quarters of the wage of Rashford between now and the end of the season, when they have the option to permanently sign him for £ 40 million.

Rashford scored four goals this season in 15 Premier League performances, after he scored seven times in 33 outings in 2023-24.

The England international had a great deal of criticism of these returns, after he had scored a career-high 17 goals, because United finished third in the Premier League in 2022-23.

Emery is determined to help the 27-year-old to hit those heights again, with the FA Cup-equal game from Sunday against Tottenham who may mark his first Villa performance.

“I am very happy with the window we had, I am very happy with him,” Emery said at the Friday pre-match press conference.

“The conversation I had with him was a very normal conversation with a player and coach, who spoke about football.

“My challenge with him is a huge challenge. His challenge with us is exciting.

“I don't want to know that he is leaving Manchester, but I am very happy to keep him here and I am very happy to try to exploit it and help him restore his versions, individually and collectively. I think he is a huge potential has to exploit. “

Rashford's attitude was repeatedly questioned by Amorim before he sealed his loan movement.

Last month, the former sporty CP boss memorable said that he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than to integrate Rashford into his united team again.

After Rashford's departure, Amorim then told reporters that he “couldn't show Marcus how to play football”.

However, Emery is not worried about Rashford's discipline.

“Today he trained fantastic, tomorrow again, Sunday is the game,” said Emery. “We will enjoy every step and then the future is only building with the present.

“If we try to get the future before we build the present, it is impossible if we do it, we will crash.”

Emery also confirmed that two of Villa's January supplements, Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia, were omitted from the Club's Champions League team.

“It was not a good decision that I had to make yesterday, but I spoke with them to tell them and also argue my decision,” said Emery.
