Emi Martinez responds after Aston Villa star’s very public PL snub

Aston Villa have brought goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez back into the Premier League after they left him out of their announcement for players named in EA Sports' Team of the Year.

The English top flight sent out a tweet on Wednesday revealing that Arsenal's William Saliba, Rodri, Manchester City star Chelsea Colmer and Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah had all been named in the line-up, all five of them congratulate.

But the Premier League forgot to include Martinez, who responded by simply replying to the post with a photo with his prize sent to him in a briefcase.

The photo of the Argentine showed the certificate case raised, with the yellow and blue trophy seen in a polystyrene case, a photo of the 32-year-old and his FIFA card rating of 94 above it.

In addition to the Premier League feature Saliba with his award with his award with his award with four more tweets uploaded where Rodri, Palmer, Van Dijk and Salah were seen posing with the award, again omitting Martinez.

Aston Villa fans started to respond by posting pictures of Martinez holding his prize, while another said: “Tell me you have a big six bias without actually telling me.”

One added: “Shameful that you missed Emi Martinez. How you didn't delete this and say it right is baffling.” Another said: “Someone tell them which keeper got this year?”

Martinez had an excellent season for Villa last year as he played 34 of a possible 38 games, kept eight clean sheets and made a total of 95 saves as he helped Unai Emery's men qualify for the Champions League.

This season hasn't been as solid as the last term, with Martinez keeping just three clean sheets and making 57 saves, with 32 big claims.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper has made a total of 188 appearances for Villa since joining Arsenal in 2020 and has been the undisputed No.1 ever since.

He started his career at the Emirates but only ever made 38 appearances, and his move to Villa has seen him become one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in the world, with Martinez lifting the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
