A man shot dead during a Christmas Day execution in Brazil has been identified as the 'brother-in-law' of Real Madrid striker Endrick.
Mauricio Nunes Goncalves was killed in a hail of bullets in a street bar in Samambaia near the capital Brasilia. He was shot several times in the head as he tried to escape the 'targeted' gun attack.
The 38-year-old was the brother of the partner of Endrick's older sister Lavinia Sudre, but is referred to in Brazil as the footballer's brother-in-law.
Lavinia changed her Instagram profile picture to one with a black ribbon after learning about the gruesome murder, which took place early Wednesday morning.
She also posted a photo of the victim and captioned him before adding, “You left beautiful memories in our hearts that we will never forget.”
The funeral was scheduled to take place on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM local time. Police continued their investigation into the murder on Thursday. There are no reports of arrests.
Witnesses told police there was no prior argument between the gunman and his victim and described it as having all the hallmarks of a cold-blooded execution.
Endrick, who was reportedly linked with a shock move to Southampton last month, has yet to comment.
The 18-year-old Brazil international moved from Palmeiras to Real Madrid this summer in a deal worth up to £60million but has seen little playing time since joining the Spanish LaLiga giants.
Recent reports in Spain have also hinted at the possibility of a six-month loan deal with Seville's Real Betis, as Endrick looks for more opportunities to showcase his quality on the pitch.
