England ratings: Frustrated Jude Bellingham very fortunate not to see red as Reece James has return to remember

Reece James broke a 33-year record of Stuart Pearce, while England Latvia sank 3-0 in their second world cup qualification.

James became the first defender to score a direct free kick for England near Wembley since Pearce against Turkey in 1992.

James did not celebrate – perhaps anything to do with the mixed answer from fans who question his admission to the team.

Before the best goalkeeper in England Harry Kane noted his 71st international strike of the square ball of Declan Rice.

With Latvia tiring and tried to push the field, England cut them open for the bent strike of Ebereechi eze also saw him his first score for England.

For example, Sunssport's Alex Smith rated the Drie Leeuwen in their latest World Cup qualifying match before September.

Jordan Pickford – 5

Really had one thing to do and made a mess of it. Did not really have to sprint out of his goal.

It is clear that a lack of communication with Marc Guehi and Latvia should have been 1-0.

Had his lounger could have had most of the game. But in typical Pickford mode, still constantly barking to those for him.

Reece James – 8

An excellent free kick that brought audible panting from the Wembley-MEFTE when he was played on the large screens.

It was a timely memory of his quality after the last seasons were ruined by an injury.

Sometimes put in a back, looked comfortable with the ball at his feet and the recovery pace had to produce a great sliding tackle in the second half.

Ezri Konsa – 7

I look more and more regularly in an England shirt.

Nice dribble from the defense when he saw the space and was physical with the Latvia-Centrum preliminary output.

Deserves more opportunities for the World Cup against stronger sides to see if he can capture the place.

Marc Guehi – 5

Usually it looks so composed at the back for the three lions, but had a night to forget.

A horror mix with Jordan Pickford presented the visitors a golden chance to score, only for them to miss an open goal in one way or another and to save Guehi's Blos.

Fortunately it was Vladislavs Gutkovskis and not Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

Also made an almost challenge in the first half and was put under pressure to let the ball run out of the game after he was unable to treat a hopeful point on the field.

Myles Lewis -Skelly – 7

It was a dream debut for the Arsenal Wonderkid on Friday evening and concluded his debut with a goal.

It would always be impossible to match the heights of the last game, but he was still impressive when drifting to midfield versus Latvia.

Brilliant close control, winning free kicks and gets stuck as usual. A top talent.

Declan Rice – 7

A simple but effective performance in midfield. England had the ball for a long time, but when Latia recovered, he was often there to break out the game.

Runs of deep are important to break down deep defenses and he did that to set up Kane for his simple finish with a smart ball over the goal, so that it is placed on a plate.

Jude Bellingham – 5

Had happiness to avoid a second yellow card after a wild and unnecessary failure.

In reality, the referee saved him from an embarrassing red card against a poor opponent.

The Real Madrid star was eventually strayed early to prevent England from going to ten men. Must control the aggression or eventually be able to cost his silk at important moments.

His undoubtedly showed quality on the ball with a number of beautiful accents and never dives a 50/50.

Jarrod Bowen – 6

Worked hard but did not take his chance completely with Bukayo Saka from injured.

Some decent moments, but did not have the creativity to unlock a deep and stubborn Latvia defense.

Bowen is much more effective when he has room to meet. Playing suits against stronger sides that go with England to-toe.

Morgan Rogers – 7

Start his first England start after three previous replacement performances.

A pleasure to look at when working in tight spaces and apparently impossible to turn the ball off.

Tackled positive positions and always wanted to receive the ball, but will be disappointed not to score or to help.

Marcus Rashford – 6

Tuchel said that his performance against Albania was missing 'Impact' and 'not aggressive enough.

He clearly took the criticism on board and was more direct tonight, looking for defenders with an eruption of acceleration and to do this regularly.

But the last ball was missing with crosses, either cooked or hit in a Latvian defender, who started to become frustrating.

Harry Kane – 6

A true passenger for a large part of the competition despite his goal. Rarely threatened and was repressed by the Latvian defense.

Started to pick up the ball in better areas in the last 30 minutes and finally showed why he is a natural goal scorer with a nice movement for tap-in.

Subs

Ebereechi Eze (for Bowen '60) –

A real clear spark when he came up and got a deserved goal.

His deception caused for Latvia and his ability to have all sides on all sides, helped to complete the game.

Phil Foden (for Bellingham '67) –

This time not on the wing. Hurrah!

Looks better in the role of NO10, but in addition to some neat steps, not much have done.

His run of not scoring or helping for England has continued since 2023.

Jordan Henderson (for Rice '79)

Another cap to add to his collection. Baas has his teammates around to help see the competition.

If he continues to make Tuchel's squadrons, it will be as far as his role goes.

Curtis Jones (for Rashford '79)

No real time to influence the game, so that it was all packed by the time he came up for a walk in the park.

Kyle Walker (for Lewis-Skelly)

Nothing wrong, but just like Henderson, a aging player is worth the young talent of England.

Give the future the future.
