In recent weeks it was confirmed that Pep Guardiola would extend his stay at Manchester City. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach signed a new one-year contract with the defending Premier League champions, lasting until the end of next season. He also has the option to stay on for another 12 months, should he decide to do so.
Guardiola has been at Manchester City since 2016, which is a comfortable period for the length of time he has had at a club in his managerial career. It turns out that this will be his last in club football, which he confirmed in an interview on the podcast “Desmontadito”, according to Diario AS.
“I'm not talking about the long-term future, but what I'm not going to do is leave Manchester City and go to another country and do the same as I do now. I wouldn't have the energy for that… The idea of living somewhere else starting, the whole training process and so on… No, no, no! Maybe in a national team, but that's different.
“There comes a point when I feel like enough is enough and then I stop for good.”
It means Guardiola could lead Spain in the future, although it's cold water if there's any chance he gets a second spell in Barcelona's hot seat.
