Enzo Maresca has damaged Chelsea's chances of winning the Premier League title.
Chelsea moved to within four points of leaders Liverpool, two ahead of Arsenal and four ahead of Manchester City when they won 4-3 at Tottenham last weekend, extending their winning run to four games.
Maresca have found a stable squad despite the club's significant spending, which has propelled them to second place, although the head coach, who won Serie A as a player with Juventus and guided Leicester to the Championship title, is yet to see any signs of title challengers in Chelsea.
“You can smell that, you can feel that – and that's probably why I said we're not ready yet, because we don't feel that and we don't smell that right now,” Maresca said ahead of their home game against Brentford. on Sunday.
“Hopefully we can get there soon, but at the moment I think that's one of the reasons why I don't think we're there.
“I like to convince myself and the players that the only way to fight for something or compete for something is to focus on one day at a time. Because when you start thinking about two days, three days, a month, two months it is the beginning of the bad time.”
Maresca has built its team around Cole Palmer, who has scored eleven goals and provided six assists in fifteen league matches this season.
“I feel very proud and privileged to work with Cole, I feel very fortunate to be able to honestly work with all of them,” said Maresca. 'Certainly, Cole is different from the rest.
“The most important thing is that he loves football. When we start a session, he is one of the first to start playing football, and at that moment you can see those who love football and those who play football.
“But we have a lot of good players. The manager in this case is me, but I am happy and proud to work with them.”
