Enzo Maresca gives scathing verdict on Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat by Brighton as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher slam Blues

Enzo Maresca has labeled Chelsea's performance against Brighton on Friday evening as 'the worst' of his time as the blues boss.

Chelsea suffered a humble 3-0 defeat from the seagulls, thanks to a wonder goal from Kaoru Mitoma and a brace from Yankuba Minth.

The blues could not register a shot on goal in the game, only six days after managing just one in a 2-1 FA Cup defeat by the same opponent. In reality, Chelsea was lucky to escape their testing in the south coast with only three concessions.

And a Downbeat-Maresca, which is under pressure in the midst of the poor recent form of his side, admitted that the display was the worst of his term of office.

“I feel sorry for the fans,” he told Sky Sports. 'It is not the right performance that we can offer, especially at the moment in the season. We have to stay together.

“I always feel busy. The performance was the worst since I arrived, so it's not the right time, but we are still in the fourth and in the race to end in Europe. '

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who had a punditry obligation for the game, said that the blues looked like a 'five-a-side' team in a destructive assessment of their performance on the side of Fabian Hurzeler.

“They looked like a five-a-side team. No penetration, she never saw a bowel destroying to get into the box, run ahead quickly, “he said. “Tonight I didn't see anything that I liked from Chelsea and it was really bad, bad performance.”

Chelsea missed the opportunity to draw a pack of Champions League-hunting parties with Manchester City, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Brighton and Aston Villa.

After playing a game more than those games, with the exception of Brighton, the blues were able to finish the weekend in sixth place with 13 games of the campaign that was left to play.

Maresca added: 'This result, the frustration is about everything. Certainly, we really feel sorry for the fans who come here and the moment we find ourselves, the position in which we find ourselves, we have to do much better than what we have done tonight.

'I think in terms of controlling the game or retaining the ball that we have done. But I said for the game if you didn't [striker] Who can be a threat we need to find different solutions. It's not just about opportunities.

'There are many things that we have to do better. We still have a lot of games to go and we are still in a good position. We have to do our best and try to finish in the best way.

'We are in a time when we feel that we can easily admit and struggle to score. I think they didn't have some opportunities for the goal. There are many things that we can do better. '

Former Liverpool -defender Jamie Carragher took part in the pile and claimed that the blues were 'absolutely damaged' by their hosts.

“Badly beaten and it could have been a lot worse,” he said on comment. 'If you think of the Saves the goalkeeper who has been made, I think they also touch the woodwork – [Brighton] Absolutely damaged in all departments.

“Just see how the Chelsea players go to the supporters, there are few of them and they are an angry group.”

Chelsea has a little more than a week to regroup before they travel to Villa Park to take on a rejuvenated Aston Villa.
