EPL table since Amorim took over shows Man Utd in real danger of going down

The Premier League table since the arrival of Ruben Amorim shows that Manchester United is in serious danger of relegation.

Last night's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle saw the new manager admit that a fight to avoid defeat is now a “possibility”.

The table is bleak for Amorim, with Man Utd in fourteenth place and seven points above the feared relegation zone heading into the new year.

Erik ten Hag made the club's worst ever start to a Prem season when he was dropped after nine league games.

But Amorim has failed to turn things around and if we only take into account the results during his reign, Man Utd would be 17th in the league.

He has amassed an impressive seven points from eight matches: two wins, one draw and five losses.

The Red Devils scored only nine goals in this period and conceded fourteen.

Overall, only Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich are in worse form.

At the other end of the table, Nottingham Forest sit at the top of the league.

But United's horror run remains perhaps the biggest surprise and yesterday's defeat to Newcastle meant they lost a third consecutive league match at Old Trafford for the first time since 1979.

In December alone they have suffered six defeats in all competitions.

That is United's biggest single-month loss since September 1930.

The damning statistics continue as fourteenth place is the lowest position in the league the club has been at this stage since 1989.

United were last relegated at the end of the 1973/74 season, just six years after winning the European Cup.

Four teams in Premier League history have collapsed after being in 14th place at the turn of the year, with Leeds coming last in the 2022/2023 season.

And with the current crisis worsening with every match, Amorim may have to channel his inner Sam Allardyce to get them out of trouble.

Asked about a fight to avoid the championship, Amorim said: “I think this is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans.

“It's my fault too. The team is not improving. It's a bit lost at the moment and it's a bit embarrassing to be coach of Manchester United and lose a lot of games.”

“I think people are tired of excuses at this club. This club needs a shock.”
