Christian Eriksen has claimed that Manchester United was lucky to prevent relegation by the Premier League this season.
The 13-way Premier League champions finished 15th with only 42 points.
It marked their lowest finish in the competition and their lowest points.
The Red Devils, who replaced Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim in November, reached the Europa League final, but a hugely overwhelming campaign was covered by a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
United signed at least on a winning note and defeated Aston Villa with 2-0 on Old Trafford on Sunday, where Eriksen marked his last United competition with a goal from the penalty place, but the midfielder quickly emphasized how luckily the Red Devils were not to be towed in a degradation scrap.
“People are lucky that we are where we are, not banning with the team, with the season we have had,” said Eriksen.

The Denmark International also stated that the non -repellent support of the fans came a surprise for the team.
He added: “There have been so many matches this season where they could have caused a lot of chaos, where they would have been disappointed in our football. But the fans really supported us to our surprise.
“At home there have been games where it has not been good enough, but they have really been supportive and gone, especially, they have been even more sharp, even in the worst times. The club is happy that those who really support the players and the club, whatever happens.”
Amorim has only won seven league games at United. Since the first weekend of the Portuguese, only four teams in the competition gathered fewer victories than the Red Devils – Spurs (six), Leicester City (four), Ipswich Town (three) and Southampton (one).
However, Eriksen has no doubt that Amorim is the right coach to help United move forward.
“Next season it must be better and I am sure it will be,” he added.
“You have seen progress. The results have not really shown that – 100% the results have not demonstrated. The football we [play now] And from less than ten hag, the time will take to adjust.
“The players are individually very good and they should never be where we are in the table. It is up to them to turn around, but I am convinced that they will be a completely different team next season.”
