Europa League Final prize money with Tottenham to bank huge sum after Man Utd win

Tottenham ended their 17-year-old trophy-dried and sent a misfiring of Manchester United in a downward play while Undervire Ange Postecoglou supervised a 1-0 win in the Europa League final

It is not only the Europa League trophy that will surprise Tottenham – they will also create a lot of prize money after their victory over Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday evening. Due to the first half of Brennan Johnson, Spurs finished their 17-year-old trophy-dried.

Both teams navigated the new competition phase and finished in the top eight to prevent an extra play-off round. Both were also put to the test during the knockout rounds, but reached the final after home-and-road victories against Athletic Club and Bodo/Glimt in the semi-final.

According to official UEFA figures, the two finalists are each guaranteed to be just over £ 5.9 million only for reaching Bilbao. Spurs, however, will double their recordings, with an extra £ 5.06 million to the winner.

That is about half of what the winners of the Champions League will earn. Which Van Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain wins that tournament receives £ 21.1 million compared to only £ 11 million for the Europa League winners.

Those figures are only for the Knock runs, with all 36 teams in the League phase of the Europa League right to £ 3.63 million and further payments based on results. A reward of approximately £ 380,000 per victory and £ 126,500 per draw means that both United and Spurs earned seven digits for their League-phase versions.

However, that is only part of the story. Due to the humble Premier League positions of the two teams, both teams knew that this competition was the only chance they would play in Europe next season – and they are Spurs who will be in the Champions League.

Spurs will create an estimated £ 100 million for reaching the Champions League, with the chance to stimulate that totally even more by reaching the last stage of that tournament next season.

After the victory, former Spurs -goalkeeper Paul Robinson told BBC Radio 5 Live: “What scenes and limbs in that Tottenham -end of the ground. The players, the staff, the supporters you can see what that means for the club. They won a trophy in them.

“17 long years without a trophy, a really bad domestic campaign, it's all turned around. A European trophy, Champions League football and who knows which springboard it could be for the club.”
