The newly introduced competition phase of the Europa League came to an end on Thursday evening with 18 games that took place at the same time.
Serie A Side Lazio finished at the top of the 36-team table by going the group stage with just one loss of their eight games.
The Italian side was accompanied by Manchester United, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Athletic Club, Lyon, Olympiacos and Rangers in the top eight of the competition.
The top eight sides made for automatic passage to the round of 16, which will take place in March.
United and Spurs – the only English parties in the competition – created a stress -free evening by comfortably beating FCSB and Elfsborg respectively.
Mail Sport explains how the knockout stage table will work for it on Friday afternoon.
How does the Europa League draw draw?
By choosing to delete the traditional format of a phase of four teams and to introduce the single League phase, UEFA also had to adjust the knockout phases of the Europa League.
While eight teams automatically booked places in the last-16, the teams must be between the ninth and 24th to compete in an extra play-off round to seal their places.
Last year UEFA chose to sow a tennis style for the knockout phases for the last time – after the administrative body had worked out, it would take 'three or four hours' to manually under the new format of the competition to organize.
UEFA estimated that only the Champions League trekking 'three or four hours' could last and could be around 900 balls if it was in the same style as before.
Where teams ended in the table, the competition bracket eventually formed, with teams that earned seedlings for the knockout phase based on their position.
Teams are linked together, with Lazio and Athletic Club that earn the top two seedlings after the first and second. It means that the only way the teams can meet in the competition this year is if they both continue to the final in Bilbao.
Similarly, they can only be confronted with United and Spurs-Diee third and fourth respectively in the semi-final stage.
The top eight sides, which have earned a sow, will be pulled against the winners of the play-off round tires in the last 16.
Who will play Manchester United and Tottenham in the last 16?
The victory for Manchester United in Bucharest means that they finished in 3rd place in the table and a round of 16 games are standing in line against one of the real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or FC Midtjylland.
A victory for Tottenham in North Londs sees she sees the same possible four opponents, who have only completed one place under United.
Rangers – who end up in the eighth – will be confronted with one of Bodo/Glimt, different, FC Twente or Fenerbahce.
The round of 16 games will be held on March 6 and March 13, with the quarterfinals that follow on April 10 and April 17.
The semi -final will be held on May 1 and 8, where both United and Spurs hope to be in the final, which will take place on May 21 at the San Mames Stadium of Athletic Club.
