Everton 2-0 Mansfield: Alcaraz stunner helps Toffees avoid Carabao Cup slip-up

Second half goals from Charly Alcaraz and replacement Beto saw Everton convenience in the Carabao Cup third round with a routine 2-0 win over League One Mansfield.

Alcaraz illuminated a tame meeting with an excellent strike for six minutes in the second half before Beto swallowed the victory with a late tap-in in the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton's second outing at their excellent new location was a much more calming affair than their historical victory over Brighton at the weekend.

But with Mansfield from Nigel Clough who rarely disturbing a strong-looking Everton side, the hosts progressed with little alarm.

After a delay of 15 minutes to enable fans to come in for the first flood match on the ground, the hosts were slow to find their pass.

The majority of the noise came from the significant support of Mansfield and it was only in the 13th minute that the hosts threatened when Alcaraz forced a rescue from Liam Roberts.

Roberts then passed over from a free kick by Dwight McNeil before Jack Grealishe was skewed far beyond the bar.

Harrison Armstrong ran on goal before the break but shot directly to Roberts.

Grealish also tested the keeper after the restart and the breakthrough eventually came shortly thereafter when James derived from Alcaraz to lead a nice shot in the upper corner from the edge of the box.

The Toffees threatened another when Seamus Coleman was a road to the name rule, but the ball hit without the game before he could pull over the goal.

Everton introduced new signature Tyler Dibbling, signed from Southampton in a £ 35 million deal earlier this week, after an hour.

He received a good reception, but the mansfield supporters remained louder and were further enlivened when a powerful shot by Luke Bolton was turned around by James Tarkowski.
