Everton started life after Sean Dyche with a 2-0 win over Peterborough United to book a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Toffees parted ways with Dyche earlier on Thursday after just under two years in charge at Goodison Park. The former Burnley boss had paid the price after a run of just one win in ten games.
Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman were given temporary charge for the visit of League One side Peterborough and they guided the Toffees to a comfortable win.
Everton broke the deadlock three minutes before half-time when Beto latched onto Harrison Armstrong's through ball before visiting goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic to finish.
Iliman Ndiaye sealed the victory from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time, making no mistake after Jadel Katongo fouled Jarrad Branthwaite in the penalty area.
Everton have won their last ten home FA Cup games against lower division sides, keeping seven clean sheets in that time.

They will be joined in the fourth round by fellow Premier League side Fulham, who romped to a 4-1 win over Championship side Watford at Craven Cottage.
The sides went level at half-time after Rocco Vata's magnificent 30-metre strike canceled out Rodrigo Muniz's opener just six minutes earlier.
After the break, however, the home team took control. Raul Jimenez continued his rich run of form with a penalty after Adama Traore was fouled by Antonio Tikvic in the penalty area.
Joachim Andersen put the Cottagers ahead just after the hour, before Timothy Castagne rounded off the scoring to see Marco Silva's side through safely.
Fulham scored four goals in an FA Cup match for the first time since January 2017 and will be hoping to build on their quarter-final performance in the competition two seasons ago.
Meanwhile, struggling Cardiff City defeated promotion hopefuls Sheffield United 1-0 in the battle for the entire championship at Bramall Lane.
Cian Ashford scored the only goal after just 19 minutes at Bramall Lane as the Bluebirds upset the form book to deny their promotion-chasing opponents.
At 20 years and 107 days, Ashford became the youngest player to score for Cardiff in the FA Cup since Rubin Colwill against Liverpool in February 2022 (19 years and 285 days).
