Ex-Arsenal youth leaves his club after being diagnosed with rare brain condition

Sweden midfielder Kristoffer Olsson has mutually agreed to end his contract with FC Midtjylland, just over a year after the diagnosis of an acute brain disorder.

The 29-year-old Olsson, who graduated from the Arsenal Academy in 2013, was rehabilitated after losing consciousness in his house on February 20 last year and was diagnosed with various small blood clots in the brain due to an extremely rare blood vessel inflammation.

Midtjylland said that the midfielder returns to Norroping in Sweden, where he will be close to his family and “he can” strive for the ambition to go back to life as a football player. “

“It's not just a story about sport, but about human power when life becomes unreasonably difficult,” said Midtjylland Deputy Football Director Kristian Bach Bak. “He showed us all what courage means in practice.”

In a club statement, Olsson said that he had 'great gratitude' for the Danish club he had with him in 2022 for a second spell.

“The club, the people, everyone around me – they were there from the first second,” said Olsson. “FC Midtjylland is not just a football club, it's a place that takes care of people.”

Olsson will train with Ifk Norroping, the club where he made his breakthrough.

'First and foremost I still dream of becoming a football player. To be able to train completely and to feel that I am contributing to a team, “he said.

'Every week I feel progress, and I am hungry and more motivated than ever. Getting the chance to do it at home in Norroping, close to my family and friends, means a lot. '

Olsson has played 47 times for Sweden.

At club level, he also played for different adhesive in Belgium, Krasnodar in Russia, Aik in Sweden and in the youth teams of Gunners.
