Ex-Barca chief slams Athletic and labels ‘Rashford better than Nico Williams’

Former Barcelona Club President Joan Gaspart has made a chance at Athletic Club about the failed Nico Williams Transfer.

Barcelona openly chased Williams for the second summer in a row after he had not convinced him because of a move after winning UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain.

La Blaugrana was not put off by that rejection and threw each source behind the attempt to sign him in June to shoot.

Los Leones finally fixed Williams for the next decade, in a new deal that runs until 2035, because they won an important victory over Barcelona to retain their star man.

The decision did not go well in Barcelona, where Diario Sport claimed that the news was met with 'incredible' in the Camp Nou with the feeling that Barcelona was used by Williams 'camp' to obtain a better contract in Bilbao.

That bitter taste did not last and Hansi Flick has since concluded a seasonal loan agreement for Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

Rashford hopes to breathe new life into his holding career under the guidance of Flick, despite concerns about the power of the club to register him as a La Liga player.

Gaspart, who was President of Barcelona from 2000 to 2003, has a reputation for explosive interviews and he is convinced that the situation ultimately went better for his old team.

“For me, Marcus Rashford is a better player than Nico Williams, and I don't care what his brother [Inaki] Says, “according to Diario Sport.

“He [Williams Jr] used us, but in a 'good way'. And he received a good contract in Bilbao. I am happy for him.

“However, I do not understand the anger of Athletic Club, I have drawn many players of them in the past, including Andoni Zubizarreta and I always go well with the president.”

Fans of Barcelona hope that Rashford can hit the ground, with only six Premier League goals last season in United and Aston Villa, with Williams on five LA Liga goals in 2024/25.
