Former Belgium -Baas Domenico Tedesco insists that he does not regret the international exile of Thibaut Courtois in 2024.
The number 1 of Real Madrid has since returned to the Belgium team under the new head coach Rudi Garcia, but the situation with Tedesco remains tense.
Courtois made the controversial decision to temporarily resign from the international service in August 2024 after a controversial dispute with Tedesco.
After the decision of the Belgian FA to dismiss Tedesco in the early 2025, the door was reopened for Courtois and Garcia quickly brought him back into the fold.
Despite the negativity surrounding the story, Courtois tied to his weapons about the issue and claimed that he was 'right' about the disagreement, but he wants to play on the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The rumor went that the row broke out about Tedesco's decision to call Courtois as a captain and the Italian coach, stated that he would not change anything about his handling of the debacle.
“I read things and kept a press conference after confirming the departure of Courtois from the Red Devils. I had to clean up things. What was written, not corresponding to the reality,” he said Bild, via Mundo Deportivo.
“Of course I thought afterwards.
“There will come a time when it will be a constant back and forth. I didn't want that. I am peace with the issue … For me it is definitely closed,”
In a separate interview, Garcia offered his opinion about Courtois and he claimed that his outspoken attitude is positive for the team.
“He says what he thinks, he likes to win. I also like to win with Belgium. If the results are not positive, it hurts,” he said.
“I need winners. Sometimes he may say what he thinks too much, but I prefer someone who says what he thinks.”
