Ex-Chelsea star undergoes heart surgery just hours after his winning goal

Former Chelsea -defender Sam Hutchinson had a heart surgery with complications after a two -game competition earlier this month.

The AFC Wimbledon defending midfielder scored the winning goal against Grimsby who insured the location of the down in the play-offs.

Hutchinson played the full 90 minutes but complained about chest pain during his interview after the game. He was brought to the hospital on the journey back where he was treated and assessed in Queens Medical Center and City Hospital in Nottingham.

'To be honest, I felt like nonsense during the game for some reason. I had a very tight chest, “he said after the game.

“I wanted to get off in the first six minutes, but I had to fight like an old Warhorse.”

The fear of health of the 35-year-old forced him last weekend to miss the semi-final of AFC Wimbledon against Notts County and the club has now confirmed that he went under the knife.

“The club can confirm that Sam Hutchinson suffered heart complications after the victory in Grimsby Town earlier this month,” said a statement.

“Sam was taken to the hospital on the journey back where he was treated and assessed. Sam then had a successful procedure at the end of last week in London and he now has a clear return to play.

'Everyone at Wimbledon provides his best wishes to Sam who is now recovering at home with his family. Hutchinson has played an important part of the success of the team this season, including scoring the winning goal to achieve our play-off place against Grimsby Town.

'While he is recovering, Sam continues to have an impact on the team and we hope that we can end the season positively for Sam.

“The club would like to die out their sincere thanks for support and care in Queens Medical Center and City Hospital in Nottingham, as well as the Cleveland Hospital in London.”

Hutchinson came through the Academy in Chelsea and made his senior debut under Jose Mourinho in 2007. He was forced to withdraw from the competition in 2010 after recurring knee injuries but returned his decision after 18 months of rehabilitation.

He joined Sheffield on Wednesday in 2014 with Leen Proverbs in Nottingham Forest and the Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem while he was a Chelsea player. After eight years on Wednesday, Hutchinson took on at Reading, where he spent the last two seasons.
