Ex-LFC star identifies potential Salah replacement after contract bombshell

Liverpool have been urged to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo if Mohamed Salah leaves the club at the end of the season.

Salah is out of contract next summer and his future is in doubt after admitting he was “probably more out than in” after Liverpool's win over Southampton. “We are almost in December and I have not received any offers to stay at the club yet,” he said.

“I'm probably more out than in. You know I've been at the club for years. There's no club like it. But at the end of the day, it's out of my control. Like I said before, it's December and I have haven't received anything yet about my future. I love the fans.

“Ultimately it's not in my hands or in the hands of the fans. Let's wait and see. I'm not retiring anytime soon so I'll just play, concentrate on the season and try to win the Premier League.” and hopefully the Champions League too. I'm disappointed, but we'll see.”

If Salah ultimately leaves, Liverpool will lose a player who has scored more than 20 goals every season since signing from Roma in 2017. However, former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes Mbeumo could help fill that void.

Mbeumo has played for Brentford so far this season, with only Erling Haaland and Salah scoring more than his eight Premier League goals, and Heskey believes the 25-year-old would fit in well at Anfield.

“Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is a player I really like,” Heskey told FourFourTwo on behalf of William Hill. “He is fantastic on the ball, can beat a man and scores a lot of goals for a team that is not at the top of the league.

“In a top team he can score a lot of goals. It's difficult with Mo Salah, because who else gives you those numbers? Sometimes we want more from Mo, but if someone gives you twenty goals a season, almost every season, with more than 30 goal contributions it is something special.

“No one else in the league gives you these numbers, both in terms of goals and assists, so Liverpool have a huge job to do in finding someone who can replace Salah when he leaves – whenever that may be.”
