Former Manchester United Starlet Angel Gomes has announced that he will leave the French club Lille when his contract ends next month. Gomes, 24, spent the last four seasons in Lille after leaving United in 2020.
The progress of the midfielder in Ligue 1 earned him his first call-up of England last September under Interim manager Lee Carsley. Gomes was part of the talented Young Lions side who won the European championship under 21 two years ago.
His striking versions for Club and Country led Premier League parties to take cognizance with Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham. The 24-year-old also recorded to say that he would never exclude a return to United in the future.
That can be a reality, as Gomes will set offers after confirming his departure from Lille on Monday. “After four unforgettable years at Losc Lille it is time for me to say goodbye,” he posted on Instagram.
“This club has been more than just a team – it has been a family, a home and a place that formed me both on and next to the field. Like every trip there were ups and downs, highlights and lows, but I am really grateful for my teammates and the fans for everywhere with me.
“I am proud of what we have achieved together and grateful for every moment. For the fans – thank you for your great support and for believing in me.
“I will be grateful forever. I have always given everything I had for the badge and for all of you. Lille will always have a special place in my heart.”
The Red Devils had high expectations of Gomes, who supplied England at the level of under the age of 18 and is the godson of ex-alternated winger Nani. Jose Mourinho gave him his debut in 2017 before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used him sparingly towards the end of his time in Old Trafford.
After his release, Lille broke him up. After spending a year on loan on the Portuguese outfit Bavista, Gomes settled in the Pierre-Maury Stade.

Last season, Gomes played two goals as an attacking midfielder and registered 10 assists in 45 performances, his best return so far. He only played this campaign 20 games and lost his starting place after a calf injury in November.
He did not appear in a single matchday team in April and was mentioned on the couch for Lille's last two games of the season. In September Gomes was asked if he had received offers to return to England.
“I have,” he confirmed. “But I believe that everything will happen naturally and in its own time and I am really cooled. So if something came that is right, you never know in football.”
