Ex-Man Utd star opens door for January transfer with ‘very cool’ admission
Andreas Pereira has given Fulham cause for concern after admitting he would find it “very cool” to join Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille.
The Ligue 1 club was interested in Pereira this summer, as were Nottingham Forest. However, the Brazilian midfielder remained at Craven Cottage and started all 12 Premier League matches under Marco Silva this season.
Pereira joined Fulham from Manchester United in 2022 after spending more than a decade on the Red Devils' books at the age of 16. He played Champions League and Europa League football for United, and a move to Marseille could offer the chance for more action. in one of those matches.
Marseille finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season, but at the time of writing are third under new boss De Zerbi. The ex-Brighton manager has already brought in several players from the Premier League, including former United striker Mason Greenwood and Spurs loanee Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Pereira could end up being the next signing.
“From the outside [England] arrived [an offer] from Marseille,” Pereira told PL Brasil (via Standard). We talked, but unfortunately it didn't work. In recent days [of the summer window]Also [there was interest] from Nottingham Forest.
“It would be really cool [to go to Marseille]the way [Roberto] The Zerbi plays football. I have looked at it with good eyes, but now let's see in January or at the end of the season whether there will be a transfer or whether I will stay at Fulham.
“Sometimes I see something and get excited to talk to it [agent Giuliano Bertolucci]. I ask: 'Is this happening and do you know it?' And he always says no. I think, 'Damn, it's complicated.'”
Pereira has scored nine goals in almost 100 Fulham games and scored once in a defeat to Manchester City this season. He has retained a starting place in west London, having played more times for Silva's side than he ever did for United, and admits it was the right decision to leave Old Trafford.
“I think this was the best decision I made in my life,” he told Standard in August. “To come and live and play here, to enjoy my football, to return to the national team with great players, to enjoy my football in the Premier League, leaving is the best decision I have made.
“While I was there, I really enjoyed playing at a fantastic club. But I don't regret leaving. We [the players in my situation] I have the desire to show that it was wrong that we did not play. With the help of everyone around me [at Fulham]I had a great season.
“[Marco Silva] is responsible for me coming to Fulham. I will always be grateful for everything he did for me. I have to show the trust he has in me by continuing to do what I do. You can dream about Europe, we must dream about Europe. It's a good thing to start the season thinking about these kinds of objectives.”
