Ex Man Utd star sent off for ‘DISGUSTING’ stamp on opposition player’s stomach

Former Manchester United talent Hannibal Mejbri has been shown a straight red card for violently punching an opposition defender in the stomach.

The Tunisian came through the Red Devils academy after joining from Monaco under-17s in 2019 for a fee of around £8million.

He made his first appearance for United in the 2020/21 season after becoming a mainstay for the under-23s.

The midfielder never gained a foothold at the Red Devils under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Erik ten Hag, despite developing during loan spells at Birmingham City and Sevilla.

Hannibal, 21, joined Burnley in August and has featured in most of his games this season, both on the bench and in the starting line-up.

But he caused a moment of madness during the Clarets' home game against Stoke on New Year's Day, kicking an opponent's stomach before receiving his marching orders.

Junior Tchamadeu was involved in a running contest with Hannibal for a loose ball that ran towards the corner flag in the 87th minute of the match at Turf Moor.

Stoke's right-back got there first and the Tunisian petulantly pushed him over, which was met with a shrill whistle from the referee.

But as Tchamadeu fell to the ground, Hannibal continued to run and stomped on his opponent's body while he was on the turf.

The defender let out a scream and began writhing on the ground before his teammates ran to the referee in protest.

The referee did not hesitate to give a red card and Hannibal had to trudge somberly off the field.

Scott Parker's men had to play out the rest of the match with 10 men and had to settle for a 0-0 draw, meaning they were unable to close the gap on leaders Leeds.

Burnley are second, level on points with Sheffield United, and just three points behind Leeds in the Championship table.

The Tunisia international was branded the 'new house king' for his antics at Elland Road earlier this season after he outrageously taunted his old rivals as he walked off the pitch.

When he was subbed off in the 73rd minute of the match, the young midfielder rioted and taunted the large contingent of home fans.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Mejbri can be seen approaching the home fans and staring at them, before pointing at them and at one point appearing to show them the 1-0 score with his fingers.

His daring actions immediately drew loud cheers from both groups of fans in the stands, albeit for very different reasons.

Leeds fans quickly became irate and shouted abuse at the star as he was led away by three members of the security staff.

But once he left the hostile side of the Leeds fans, he was welcomed to cheers from the Burnley fans who applauded and lapped up his daring antics.

He rounded off the spectacle by pumping his fists at the home crowd before turning to the Leeds fans one last time.
