Ex-UFC champ praises Jason Herzog for controversial UFC Abu Dhabi reffing… ‘Wish I got a fair shake like that’

Not every hunter, fan and analyst stacks in Jason Herzog for his questionable referee at UFC Abu Dhabi.

In addition to praise for strong versions of people such as Reinier de Ridder, Petr Yan and Sharabutdin Magomedov, Herzog's work has emerged in the cage as a leading point of conversation that comes from the UFC fighting evening on Saturday.

Taking the walk in Etihad Arena was the hometown Mohammad Yahya. It was not going to plan for the Emirati hunter for his countrymen because he was badly beaten by Steven Nguyen – for a melody of a record number of knockdowns.

Most had seen enough after the first pair, but that was not even the case for the referee after he had seen eight knockdowns (six officially recorded by the UFC). It finally cost Herzog the state of Yahya's swollen left eye in the corner to call the game after the second round.

The experienced officer was widely beaten for his decision -making in the fight, but he is not without any support in the aftermath.

Aljamain Sterling supports Jason Herzog's decision not to stop UFC Abu Dhabi before

During the last episode of his podcast, The Weekly Scraps, former UFC Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling gave a surprisingly supportive view of Herzog's controversial referee at UFC Abu Dhabi.

'Funk Master' has been vocal in the past about his thoughts about how he lost the title of 135 pounds. Sterling was stopped by Sean O'Malley in the main event of UFC 292, but he insisted that referee Marc Goddard had stopped the fight too early.

That apparently still influences his thoughts about referee, while Sterling Herzog praised because he gave Yahya every chance and wished that he would have received the same treatment in the past.

“Bro, he is in Abu Dhabi, he is an Emirati,” said Sterling. “(Herzog's) who tries to give him (yahya) every fight he could.

“A feather for him. I wish I got such a honest shake in some of my fights; I'm not going to say which,” he added.

Aljamain Sterling is not the only one who defends Jason Herzog

Sterling is not alone with his views on the referee of Herzog in the middle -east.

Former UFC hunter Din Thomas also defended referee Herzog during ESPN's UFC Fight Night Post Show, which stated that he was fine with the decision to have Yahya fight, given that it was a home fight.

“I am not someone who allows a referee to have a hunter achieve a moral victory, but this was a situation in which I thought,” Okay, “said Thomas.

“This guy, he did not win in the UFC. This guy comes out for his hometown and sets up that Putsy.

“I think it's great to let him go a little longer,” Thomas added.
