Former Manchester United Star other Herrera was shown a red card on the couch during Wilde Scenes in the World Cup opener of Boca Juniors Club.
Herrera, 35, was only immersed for 20 minutes in the Feisty 2-2 of his Argentinian side with Benfica – before he was sent one of the three players.
After 20 minutes, Herrera was forced with an injury, before Boca Juniors quickly took a 2-0 lead in Miami seven minutes later.
But Chaos hit the edge of the break when the former Manchester City star Nicolas Otamendi won a soft fine for Benfica, when Carlos Palacios was assessed to have made light contact in the air.
A furious Herrera was smoking with the decision to send referee Cesar Arturo Ramos to the VAR monitor.
In shocking scenes, the injured midfielder tried to make his way through the security to confront the referee while he was in the middle of a VAR review.
Herrera had to be stopped by guards, before he received a straight red card at the Hard Rock Stadium – which will organize seven games at the 2026 World Cup.
His former man Utd and PSG teammate Angel di Maria, 37, scored the Spot kick in the third minute of the first half injury time, for more fireworks in the second half.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men while the temperature flared up, with Benfica's Andrea Belotti and Jorge Figal from Boca who also saw red.
Belotti, who was a half-time sub, received his marsorders in the 72nd minute for a dangerous high boot on the back of the head of a Boca player.

Ramos originally gave Belotti a yellow card, but upgraded it after he was called to assess by VAR.
After things are arranged for a few minutes, Otamendi completed the beautiful comeback with a ball head in the 84th minute.
But Bocas were only four minutes later to nine men after Figal was too late and reckless with a challenge near the touch line, right for a group of Benfica players who heat up.
A fight threatened to start between the bank and players before the officials intervened.
It was so far one of the busiest matches of the World Cup, with 55,574 people in the crowd, with a Sea Bocas fans in yellow shirts.
In the meantime, Chelsea's 2-0 victory over MLS Side Lafc was played for an almost empty stadium in Atlanta.
Bocas are in group C with Bayern Munich and Auckland City, with the German champions who hit the New Zealand side with 10-0 on Sunday.
