Fans arrested for making Nazi salutes in France’s clash against Croatia

Seven fans who made Nazi greetings during a Nations League match between France and Croatia were taken into custody, the Paris authorities confirmed.

Laurent Nunez, prefect of the Paris police, issued a statement on Monday that it was described that the seven people were arrested after security measures were introduced prior to Sunday's game in the Stade de France.

After contacting the Associated Press, Nunez did not say which team supported the fans.

“Sport is and must remain a party,” he said in a statement on social media. “These people have no things in a sports arena.”

During the competition, fireworks went into the housing where the fans of Croatia were collected and some torches were also lit.

Last year, Croatia belonged to the seven national football federations ordered by UEFA to pay fines for racist and discriminatory abuse by fans at European championship matches.

They received the largest fine of 50,000 euros ($ 54,000) for incidents for each of the three games.

France, who entered Sunday's game with a shortage of two goals of the first stage, clawed level aggregated thanks to goals by Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele, who took the draw to 2-2 at the end of normal time.

The World Cup winners of 2018 kept their nerve off the penalty place to win the shootout 5-4, with Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic missing the decisive punishment for Croatia.

France now plays Spain in the last four of the Nations League, which was won a repeat of the semi -final of the Euro 2024 last year by La Roja.
