Fans of Manchester United have Ruben Amorim's 'pathetic' failures to view the penalty shootout, for his side, destroyed while the Red Devils deposited out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
In the bus to League Two Minnows Grimsby, not many United players can expect to return to Manchester who compete on just two fronts – but a disaster struck in the northeast.
With a pressure structure on him after a winless opening two games of the Premier League season, Ruben Amorim called a strong side for the David and Goliath-like collision including new recruits Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
United, however, never started and soon was 2-0, perhaps not surprising, two striking mistakes by Andre Onana on his return to the starting eleven.
Grimsby, who did not squeeze herself, managed to hold their lead in the Thrashing Northern Rain until the 75th minute, when replacement Bryan Mbuemo attracted one for the visitors.
Then a united attack with Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Sesko, Cunha and Mbuemo all came to the field, who finally paid off when Harry Maguire nodded home. It was punishment.
One night where the surface in Blundell Park had absorbed an enormous amount of rain, the Spot kicks were incredibly impressive. Only Matheus Cunha and Clarke scent missed the target before it was time for Mbuemo to perform for the second time.
His efforts collapsed in the bar, so Grimsby handed a historic victory over the largest club of English football, 12-11 for penalties.
No-doubt aware of the attack that came on his way as United, Ruben Amorim spent the entire shootout with staring at the floor of his dugout, unable to look, in a movement crashed by supporters and experts on social media after the game.
'Ruben Amorim is in the Dugout and does not look at his players who take punishments, hardly screams later. Even if man won Utd, tells me that he is not the right man for a club of that size. Weak, “Daily Mail's Craig Hope posted.
A fan of United wrote: “I'm sorry, but the manager who doesn't look at the penalties is an absolute f ***** g terrible appearance.”
Another posted: “You may not like to look at punishment (the fact that United was lucky to get there, tells his own story), but the view of Amorim squats behind his staff during the shoot out, on another disastrous night for the club, was not great.”
'Absolutely pathetic from Amorim to sit not to look at the penalties. What message did that send? Dead Man Walking, “one posted.
While another critical supporter went to X to write: 'Correct me if I am wrong, but someone else thinks that Ruben Amorim is not looking at one of a third round in the first round of a third Tier Cup competition against a competition of League 2. Seems really strange to me. '
The hope of United on a trophy now only rests on the FA Cup and Premier League, after the Red Devils did not come for any form of European football.
Amorim criticized the gloomy performance of his players in his interview after the game.
“It doesn't matter if you are recovering or not,” he told Sky Sports, “what it is about the signs that the team gave during the game, from the beginning.
'I think – no, I know – that the best team has won. The best players can lose because one real team can win against any group of players. And today the team, the players, spoke very hard. So that's it. We lost and won the best team.
'I think it is really clear what they were saying. So let's continue from this day. It was really clear to everyone what happened today. '
The Red Devils are back in action on Saturday when they organize Burnley in the Premier League in Old Trafford.
